- Make sure the rider and their riding style clicks with the horse.
- Look for confirmation (or build) – this is important with race horses in particular when they are yearlings.
- Look at temperament – ensure the horse reacts well to humans and fellow animals.
- Look at the feet – if a horse is low in the heels or has one foot smaller than the other, this can indicate weight bearing problems.

Julie and Kayla Russell have lived and breathed horses for most of their lives. The understanding they have patiently built over these years is hard to match, and can only be achieved by developing a mutual respect with their animals.

Based in North Queensland, just outside Charters Towers, our serene riverside setting - combined with our attitude to re-education - ensures our horses develop the right mindset.
While YP Performance Horses primarily focuses on re-educating and selling race horses and ex-race horses, we also train animals from scratch and re-educate horses for private customers. Even the most troubled horses can be helped with the gentle assistance of horse communicators Colin Brown and Mick Davidson.

New addition to the stables is a yearling filly by benicio out of galena lodge mare brought at the magic millions yearlings sales in march by Julie. Now in the capable hands if Mick Davidson getting broken in.
